Why You’ll Love Grandma’s Brandy Glazed Carrots

This simple vegetable side dish transforms ordinary carrots into a luxurious, crowd-pleasing favorite. Even picky eaters will ask for seconds of this dish.

  • Elegantly Simple: Takes humble carrots and turns them into a rich, glossy side dish fit for the finest holiday menus.
  • Quick 20-Minute Prep: Bakes or simmers quickly on the stovetop, saving you valuable oven space on busy cooking days.
  • Incredible Depth of Flavor: The warm, oaky notes of the brandy balance beautifully with sweet honey and rich butter. However, it is not overly sweet.
  • Year-Round Versatility: Pairs just as brilliantly with holiday turkey and roast beef. In addition, it pairs well with weeknight pork chops or chicken.

Grandma’s Tips for the Best Glazed Carrots

To achieve that irresistible, glossy coating and tender-crisp texture, keep these simple vintage kitchen secrets in mind:

  • Slice for Uniformity: Cut your carrots into thick, even coins or diagonal batons. Slicing them evenly ensures every piece cooks through at the exact same rate.
  • Don’t Overcook the Carrots: Steam or boil the carrots just until they are fork-tender before adding them to the glaze. Overcooking can make them mushy, while a firm bite holds up perfectly to the hot syrup.
  • Let the Glaze Reduce: Allow the butter, honey, and brandy to simmer until it bubbles softly and thickens into a glossy glaze that coats the back of a spoon. This concentrates the warm flavor. Furthermore, it sticks to the carrots beautifully.
  • Non-Alcoholic Swap: If you prefer to cook without alcohol, you can easily substitute the brandy with equal parts sweet apple cider or orange juice. Or use a dash of rum extract mixed with broth!
