There is nothing quite like the sheer joy of a classic banana split, but when warm weather arrives, no one wants to race against melting ice cream scoops or heat up the kitchen. Grandma solved that problem with her legendary no-bake Banana Split Dessert! It packs all the nostalgic flavors of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor—sweet bananas, rich cream cheese filling, crushed pineapple, juicy cherries, and crunchy pecans—into a cool, sliceable, potluck-ready dish.

This crowd-pleasing dessert features a buttery Graham cracker crust layered with a light, velvety whipped cream layer, fruit, and all your favorite ice cream toppings. It’s the ultimate make-ahead recipe for summer BBQs, family reunions, holiday pitch-ins, or whenever you need a cool, refreshing sweet treat that feeds a crowd with zero oven time.

Grandma’s Tips for the Best Layered Banana Split Dessert

Layered desserts are simple to put together, but Grandma always used a few vintage tricks to make sure every slice came out neat and full of flavor:

  • Prevent Bananas from Browning: Toss your sliced bananas gently in a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice or pineapple juice before layering them. This keeps them bright and fresh for days!
  • Beat the heavy whipping cream Layer Well: Take your time whipping the heavy whipping cream, sugar, and butter until it’s completely smooth and fluffy before spreading it over the Graham cracker crust.
  • Chill Thoroughly Before Serving: Allow the dish to chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours (or overnight). This gives the layers time to set properly so you get clean, beautiful slices.
