Welcome to Kale and Croutons!
HI I’M BERYL
I’m a backyard chef, a dedicated recipe developer, and a lifelong lover of food. But more than anything, I am a keeper of family traditions.
If you’ve been searching for foolproof, authentic Southern comfort food that fills the soul just as much as the belly, you have found your seat at the table.
Where It All Began: Grandma’s Kitchen
My culinary education didn’t happen in a fancy cooking school. Instead, it happened at a very young age, standing side-by-side with my grandmother—a relentless coupon clipper, a masterful tweaker of recipes, and the heart of our family.
As a teenager, I used to lose myself in the old Gourmet magazines lying around my mom’s and grandma’s houses. I wasn’t just looking at the recipes. In fact, I was mesmerized by the way the words poetically captured all the beautiful, messy, wonderful ways that food plays into our daily lives.
Every recipe in my grandmother’s kitchen had a story to tell. It was there that I learned that cooking isn’t about strict rules or perfection; it’s an art form. Moreover, it’s about a low and slow simmer. It’s also about balancing flavors, and knowing exactly how to “put your foot” into a dish to make it legendary.
My Mission: Preserving the Heritage
Food has the unique power to connect generations. Kale and Croutons is my humble attempt to preserve our rich family traditions and culture for future generations to cherish.
I believe that anyone can learn to cook incredible, unforgettable meals. My mission is to break down the intimidation of the kitchen and show you how to master the ancestral art of Southern cooking. We start with simple, step-by-step techniques. Additionally, we celebrate the natural mistakes along the way, and build the confidence you need to serve up meals your family will talk about for years.
Whether you are an experienced home cook or stepping up to the stove for the very first time, I am here to educate, entertain, and inspire you to bring love back to the dinner table.
