Why You’ll Love Grandma’s Cheeseburger Soup

This soup is a staple in comforting home cooking for good reason:

  • Kid & Family Approved: Even picky eaters fall in love with a soup that tastes just like their favorite cheeseburger.

  • Great for Meal Prep: Tastes even better the next day as the flavors continue to meld together in the fridge!

Grandma’s Secrets for the Creamiest Cheeseburger Soup

To ensure your soup turns out perfectly silky with zero graininess, keep these simple cooking tips in mind:

  • Shred Your Own Cheese: Pre-shredded packaged cheeses contain anti-caking agents that can keep the cheese from melting smoothly. Shredding a block of sharp cheddar right off the block creates the creamiest, smoothest texture!
  • Gentle Heat for Cheese: Always lower the heat or remove the pot from the stove before stirring in the cheese and sour cream/milk. High heat can cause dairy to curdle or break.
  • Dice Potatoes Small & Even: Cut your potatoes into small, bite-sized cubes so they cook evenly and fit comfortably on a soup spoon with the beef and veggies.
  • Top It Like a Burger: Have fun with toppings! Garnish bowls with crispy bacon bits, sliced green onions, extra shredded cheddar, or even homemade croutons.
