The Golden Refresher

The Golden Refresher is a very easy drink to make, and one of my grandchildren's favorite. They love this drink no matter when it is served to them.

  • 1 liquid measuring cup
  • 1 large wooden spoon
  • 1 8 oz tall glass
  • 1 Tablespoon

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • dash salt
  • 1 2-inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 pt orange sherbert
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • ¾ cup lemon juice

  • Maraschino cherries with the stems on
  • 2 bottles 12-oz size carbonated lemon drink or ginger ale, chilled well

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of water, cloves, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Now reduce the heat, and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Then add the cinnamon stick and let it cool.
  • Now combine the orange and lemon juices with the cooled syrup. Then mix this really well. Refrigerate this for several hours, until it is very cold.
  • To serve this: In each tall glass (8 oz), pour about ⅔ cup of the juice, and drop in 1 large spoonful of sherbert. Now fill the glass with a carbonated drink. Stir the drink and garnish with a mint sprig, and with a cherry.
