Ingredients 

  • 3 lbs russet potatoes, thinly sliced (about 8 to 10 cups)
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 ¼ tsps salt
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°.
  • In a large bowl combine the salt, cream, pepper and shredded cheddar cheese. If you desire you can also use thyme.
  • Arrange all the potatoes in a greased 13x9 inch baking dish. Pour the cream mixture over the top of the potatoes.
  • Bake this uncovered until the potatoes are tender and the top is lightly browned for about 45 to 55 minutes.
  • Let it stand for about 10 minutes before serving.
