Grandma’s Southern Baked Beans (Easy Meaty Cookout Side Dish)

Growing up with my grandma, we always made this traditional Southern baked beans family recipe for summer cookouts, church potlucks, and holiday get-togethers.

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 large spoon
  • 1 knife
  • 1 can opener
  • 1 13x9 inch baking dish with the lid
  • 1 drainer

Ingredients 

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 Tbsp molasses
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • 2 cans (13.7 oz each) pork and beans or beans with tomato sauce
  • ½ lb bacon strips, cooked and crumbled.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°.
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat about 6 minutes or until beef is no longer pink, breaking up the beef into crumbles , then drain.
  • Stir in the ketchup, sugars, mustard, barbecue sauce, chili powder and molasses.
  • Add the bacon and beans.
  • Transfer to a greased 13x9 inch baking dish. Baked covered for about 45 minutes.
  • Bake uncovered about 10 minutes longer or until heated through out.
