Ingredients 

  • 1 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • additional sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°.
  • In a large bowl cream the sugar and butter together. Beat in the molasses and egg.
  • In another bowl combine the flour, salt, ginger, cloves, baking soda and cinnamon. Gradually add to the creamed mixture. Let this chill.
  • Once chilled roll into 1 ¼ inch balls, and dip into a small bowl of the additional sugar.
  • Place 2 inches apart on the ungreased baking sheets. Place in the oven and allow to bake for about 10 minutes or until set. You will know when they are set because the surface will crack.
  • Cool on wire racks for about 15 minutes.
