Grandma's English Trifle

This English Trifle recipe was my grandma's. I do remember my mother telling me stories about how her mother made this dessert for Saturday night dinners, when they had guest.

  • 2 quart glass serving bowl
  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 spoon
  • 1 hand or electric mixer

Ingredients 

  • 1 prepared loaf pound cake or 1 pkg (10 ¾ oz) frozen pound cake, thawed
  • ½ cup raspberry jam
  • 1 pkg 3 to 3 1/2 oz regular or instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup chilled heavy whipping cream
  • 3 Tbsp confectioners' sugar
  • Slivered Almonds
  • Maraschino cherries, halved

Instructions

  • Slice the pound cake in half horizontally. Spread with jam and replace the top of the cake.
  • Slice the cake into 9 pieces. Line the sides and fill the center of a 2 quart glass serving bowl with cake pieces.
  • Prepare the pudding with the milk. Pour this mixture over the cake. Then chill this mixture.
  • Beat the cream and sugar until soft peaks form; spread this over the cake and pudding. Chill at least 4 hours. Garnish with the slivered almonds and cherries.
